Officially a dot com

I have plans to fancy up my blog this year. I want to create a better header and better side bar icons and part of that might include switching blog platforms (I currently use WordPress, but am looking into Typepad or Blogger for better customization). I have a friend (and fellow blogger Kristen) who has offered to help with some of the design-y stuff where she can, thanks Kristen! I started by swooping up the domain on the other (free) platforms and also decided to buy the “dot com” so now HomeSweetOakland.wordpress.com also equals HomeSweetOakland.com (see the BIG difference?)

Also in Oakland “news” this week, our lovely city made the “45 Places to Visit in 2012” list published by the New York Times…we are #5!!! Oakland is a beautiful place to visit with lots to offer to tourists. Take a walk around Lake Merritt (with a stop at the Lake Chalet for dinner or drinks overlooking the water). Take a hike up in the hills in Redwood Park. Stroll down Piedmont Ave and take an exercise class at the Dailey Method or try Flying Yoga on Telegraph in the Temescal neighborhood. While you’re there you can visit some of my favorite places: Bakesale Betty (amazing fried chicken sandwiches), Article Pract (yarn store), Doña Tomas (you MUST try a mojito, you won’t regret it), Genova Delicatessen (authentic Italian deli), and Burma Superstar.

Basically what I’m telling you is…

If you are from the area what are some of your favorite spots to visit?

{*please note I was not paid to talk up these places, they are just a few of my favorite parts about living in Oakland)
